Liverpool band RATS have continued to merge reggae influences with a classic hip-hop palette. ‘Turn It Around’ is their new single, with a dubby chorus filling the gap between verses defined by both infectious melodies and an impressive flow, with lyrics about broken politics. “With ‘Turn it Around’, I wanted to write a hip hop, sort of Dr. Dre or Snoop Dog-style, guitar riff,” says bassist Lowell Carragher. “The lyrics were written just after lockdown, when there was a big electricity crisis, inspiring the lyrics. So, it was a political song at first.” The band’s new album, RULE THE WORLD, is out on May 2nd, 2025. -Dan Peeke
